THE REASON FOR MY TRUST ISSUES

So my mum recently called me to inform me that she just got a small goat for my younger brother. He asked her to get him a goat as he wants to start raring goats. She even asked me if I wanted mine.
'No mummy, please give me the money instead' I replied

One business person reading this would begin to wonder, why I just turn down a legit business opportunity/investment?
Calm down brother/sister, if you grew up in the kind of Igbo home I grew up in, you would not even wait to hear the end of that question.

So while growing up, my dad used to reward us with a goat each time we came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in class. The higher your grade, the finer your goat was.
Maybe when I become a parent, I'll finally understand what was going through his mind.
Once you were given that goat, you had the responsibility of feeding it, cleaning it's mess, and the most interestingly, naming it (we got to name them after girls that annoyed us in school). We called the biggest goat Mgbede and another Bilikisu. There were other sets of twins and triplets too.
Those days, coming back from church, you'll see us dragging branches with leaves and a Herd of goats following from behind, we did this with joy because we knew the goat meat pepper soup was a worthy reward.
On the day of reckoning, which was just a series of tragedies. The first sad thing was having to chase the goats from the street back into our compound (thanks to that, I learned the useless skill of bleating), another sad part was watching how they slaughtered animals we raised as children and the saddest part was that my dad still got the biggest share of the goat meat. The only reward for the owner of the goat was that he/she got the bigger share amongst other siblings. Imagine the brief joy.
When I noticed that that was the trend, I started crying to my father that I wanted a bicycle instead or a big birthday party which he would later agree to at the moment. But what did I get at the end of the term again? Another goat!

Hence the reason for my Trust issues 😊
